Standing Balance Basics teaches you the basics of balance while standing. It teaches you how to stabilize your foundation, your feet, and how to use your feet both to feel where your center of gravity is, and how to control where your center of gravity is.

Learn to feel your center, and control it

With the focus on feeling your center of gravity and controlling it, this approach to balance can then be used to making balance easier when doing arm balances, inversions and other poses or exercises where balance is a requirement of issue.
(Note that arm balances and the like aren't covered explicitly in this course.)

Learn what to focus on while trying to balance

While you still need to practice balance, the exercises and instructions and explanations included in Standing Balance Basics, show you what to focus on while balancing (or learning to balance). It makes it easier for you to understand what  you need to work on within a pose or exercise to make balancing easier.

A starting point for better body awareness

If you want to improve your body awareness, and body control, balance is a good place to start. You learn to feel and control your body's relationship with the earth. From there, you learn to feel and control relationships within your body via you muscles and connective tissue tension.

Learn to feel force and control it

With balance, learning to control your relationship with the earth, you mainly use pressure as a means of feeling and controlling your body. Later on, when learning to feel the relationships within your body, you learn to feel and control muscle activation and connective tissue tension. In either case (whether feeling tension, or pressure) what you are learning to feel and control are forces.

Course content (Non HD video)

The videos for this course are not HD. However, the content is still relevant.

As in all my videos, I demonstrate the exercises. You can follow along with the video. You can then also do the exercises from memory without the videos.

All exercises are done with a slow and smooth rhythm and the idea is that you also do the exercises slowly and smoothly.

This not only improves your control. It can make it easier to notice changes in sensation as they occur.

Basic foot activation and foot control

Because the main focus is on balancing while upright, you'll also learn some basic foot activation exercises.

These are the same exercises I learned to correct for collapsed arches or what the army called "flat-feet".

And so part of this "learning how to balance on your feet" includes activating your feet in such a way that they can effectively support your body, especially when trying to balance on one foot.

Shifting your center and accounting for it

Other things that you'll learn in this course are how your body's center of gravity can shift relative to your body as you change posture. You'll also learn how to stay balanced despite shifts in your center of gravity relative to your body. This understanding is crucial if you ever want to learn a straight leg lift up into headstand.

Balance based on practical science

All of the exercises and explanations included in this course are based on a rudimentary understanding of practical science (statics and dynamics). (I studied Systems Design Engineering at the University of Waterloo. Prior to that I studied A-level maths (where I learned a lot of the "basic science") via correspondence course while in the army.) I also teach (and have taught) much of the content that is in this course in my yoga classes.

The Membership option

Note that you can also access this program and all of my other muscle control programs via my "take out the slack" membership. Membership is $40/month and you can cancel at any time.

the "Take out the Slack" membership includes all of the programs in this image.

(You can also save with a 3 or 6 month membership.)

Note a key difference. If you buy this program you can stream the videos it or download them.
With a membership, you can only stream the videos.  And you can stream the videos for the duration of your membership.

Why get a membership?

Why get a membership?
All of the exercises that I teach focus on some aspect of feeling your body and controlling it. Once you've learned, it's hard to forget (though I could be wrong). The intent of these videos is to help you learn your body in such a way that you don't need to watch the videos once you've learned the exercises. Instead you can focus on the exercise itself and on feeling our body and enjoying it while you do the exercises.

Another reason for getting a membership is that it is for a limited time.
That can offer you encouragement to actually watch the videos and learn the exercises.

Plus, with a membership, you get access to all of my muscle control courses. (Dance of Shiva videos are not included.)
While there is some overlap, you'll get a taste of the different ways that you can learn the same technique and if you are a teacher you'll get a really good idea of how you can make each class different but still effective.

Note that if you do get a membership, you can cancel at any time. If you do cancel, you'll retain membership access until the end of your period for which you've paid for.

Guarantee

This course comes with a 30 day guarantee. If you aren't satisfied, email me within 30 days of purchase to let me know and I'll give you your money back. My email is included with the email receipt when you purchase this course.
(As a side note, the "take out the slack" membership comes with a 10 day guarantee for first time members only. That means, the first time you join the membership program, you have 10 days to ask for a refund.)
